When you're looking for that perfect accommodation for your stay you need to be happy and secure in your chosen premises. For most trips you'll probably be looking to stay in a hotel or a serviced apartment. Both provide you with a place to stay and relax which should be near to the area you're visiting. However, there are some key differences between staying in a hotel and staying in a serviced apartment. These differences can affect you whether you're using the accommodation for business, pleasure or both. So it's important to understand the difference between the two types of accommodation to ensure you get the most out of your stay. We're going to look at the main differences between the two accommodation options and benefits associated with each. Bearing in mind that you need to consider who you'll be staying with such as family and friends or on your own and also the purpose of your visit. For example: will you be bringing guests back to your room with you? Space When staying in a hotel you'll probably only have a bedroom and a toilet/shower. Your space will be limited to pretty much just the room and you're unlikely to have a large kitchen area. A serviced apartment is similar to a flat because it has multiple rooms. You'll therefore have more space and rooms such as a kitchen, bathroom and possibly multiple bedrooms. Privacy Staying in a hotel does limit your privacy. The walls can sometimes be thin meaning conversations might be heard through walls. Also, many staff within the hotel will have a key to your room and your door may be left open whilst the chamber maids carry out their duties. Serviced apartments have much more privacy and are also more secure. Freedom In a hotel you're limited to your room. The most you can do is watch the TV, read a book or the newspaper and take a shower. There's not a great deal of freedom to walk around. In a serviced apartment you can pace around different rooms and you don't have to worry about reception being manned to get back in the building! Cost If you're staying for a long time a hotel is likely to cost the same amount each night. When spread over a few weeks or even months this can add up to a significant cost. Serviced apartment, on the other hand, are much cheaper when staying for more than a few days. You'll also save money on eating since you'll have access to your own kitchen. This means you won't have to eat out all the time. Convenience If you regularly return to the same location you can check into the same serviced apartment; making it almost a home away from home. You'll soon start to feel comfortable and relaxed in the similar surroundings. It's also ideal if your family are staying together since you'll all be in the same apartment and not spread across different hotel rooms.
